Do you approach writing fiction differently than you do writing nonfiction, such as Lost in Transplantation?

Great question! Writing a memoir is different in that the story already exists, but I do use fiction techniques to craft a story that reads more like a novel than a boring diary. My goal is to immerse the reader not just in the events as they occur, but in the emotions of those events.
In writing fiction I want the reader to feel so close to the characters,so immersed in the setting that they feel like they're reading about a real event.

This I Know has such a great and unique plot. I am truly enjoying it so far. Your style of writing makes it very easy to picture the particular scene being played out. How do you plan out your books - outlines, index cards, etc. As someone who would love to write a book, is there an approach you would recommend?

Where did you get the idea for twinless twins from This I Know? It means so much to me because I'm an early loss twin like Grace. I miss my brother so much and I've never met him. Sometimes I pretend I can talk to him so This I Know is a wish-fulfillment for me. I'm also a small-town midwestern Christian who is disabled, (Cerebral Palsy) it only affects my limbs.
