Frankie asked:

I'm wondering, what kind of book is this in terms of magic, guns, bows and arrows and swords, or weaponry in general, and how would you describe the battles? Would I see the characters in the book grow older as I read further into the book series? Or would it be similar to Pokemon, where Ash stays forever 11 years old (or however old he is) throughout the several years it has aired?

the characters definitely age
Grant Metzger Rangers Apprentice fills a very interesting niche. When I think "Fantasy", this book is not one that would immediately come to mind, (though it is probably in that category). The best way to think of Rangers Apprentice is as a parallel universe very similar to our own (set in a medieval time period), the geography of the world, is almost exactly the same as our own, and many real-world cultures have very similar counterparts in the book, albeit with slight name changes (e.g. the "Skandians" are basically Vikings, the "Arridi" are Arabians, and the "Scotti" are, well Scottish). The books only (from what I remember) major Fantasy element was a fictional (as far as I know and hope) race of wolf-bear-ape creatures called the "Wargals". Other then those guys, the book is basically just about a fictional version of England (Araluen) where fictional battles happen so that the author doesn't have to be 100% historically accurate. (Sorry, this is getting kinda long). As for 'Magic, guns, bows and arrows and swords, or weaponry in general' the battles are really only carried out with a variety of historical medieval weapons, (citation needed) (i.e. no muskets and no fireballs, just lots of archery and hand to hand combat). As for your final question, Yes, you would totally see the characters grow. The series spans around twelve books and the main character (SPOILER?) ages at least thirty years between the first and last book.
Anyway, hope this helps and that you didn't ask this question back in 2010 or something...
