Agatha has her cats and Hamish his dog and his wild cat, do you have any pets?

M.C. Beaton I had a Brooklyn dog called Rover and a Virginian cat called Peter. When we returned to the UK, they were in quarantine for six months. Both are dead now and the grief I felt was awful. Couldn’t go through that again. Besides, I travel a lot. I think Kipling said something like, “Why give your heart to a dog to tear?”

After working through a novel, do you tend to cleanse your writerly palate and work on a different set of characters and problems, or do you prefer to remain in one setting and work on several pieces in a row?
