Goodreads asked Hawkings Austin:

What’s your advice for aspiring writers?

Hawkings Austin If you want to write, write, but get advice on writing fairly quickly. It hurts a bit, starting out, but you'll appreciate it more as time goes on. The fact is, you probably don't know how to write a plot synopsis and you probably need to. You should also know how to criticize your own chapters, figure out if you're helping the plot or not.

The easiest thing in the world is to just write "what happens to your characters." There is a lot of ideas in the stream of consciousness writing, but most of it wont make it into the novel.
