Of course it depicts human society, specifically the Soviet State of Joseph Stalin but it is much deeper and more universal than that. I depicts ALL forms of institutionalized totalitarianism, and is probably just as pertinent to the modern day global business take over of the world in its quest of power and wealth. Everyone and everything, including democracy, can be sacrificed for their enrichment and empowerment.(less)
