Marianna Day
Marianna Day asked Jennifer A. Nielsen:

Hi, I always have lots of trouble writing books, how do you do it? I just adore your books!

Jennifer A. Nielsen Thanks, Marianna. My suggestion to build your writing skills is to start with your favorite books and study them like they're textbooks. How did the author build the plot, handle descriptions, use dialogue. Re-read your favorite books and ask yourself what the author could have done better, or what you would have done if it was your story.

Then just write. Don't worry yet about writing an entire book. Maybe write a description of a character, or just the dialogue to a fight scene, or something more basic. As you do, you'll gain experience and confidence to try longer passages, and you will get there. But you don't have to do it all at once. Start with what you can do and then build on it!
