Where did you find inspiration for The House of Night books? How did you be come a writer? Was it hard? I want to become a writer so I'd like to know.

Way back in 2005 my agent asked me to consider writing a series set at a "vampire finishing school." I was teaching high school and immediately thought YA. Then I decided to set it in my hometown, smack in the middle of the bible belt, and make it empowering to those on the fringe - strongly matriarchal - and inclusive of all kinds of people - and the House of Night was born!

I've been writing since I was in 1st grade. When I got serious about being a published novelist it didn't take me long to get published - but first I had to write a publishable book - that's key to the process.
