Yes. He invented her in his psyche to save his life. That's why she makes him promise to kill her. When Harry kills Hermine he ends the fantasy. He no longer needs her to survive. When we first meet Harry he is rational to the point of being suicidal. The gift that Hermine gives to Harry is that she introduces him to the lower mysteries: to sex and drugs and jazz. She awakens his bodily corporeal aspect.
