Your latest book, The Secrets She Keeps, was so suspenseful, and the characters were all so realistic and developed. Do you plan the story before writing your draft and if so, how do you approach plotting and storytelling?

It surprises a lot of people that I don't plot in advance, which is a very organic and exciting way of writing, although also a very scary. It's like writing without a safety net and sometimes the landing is ugly and I throw away large chunks of text. But it's also very exciting. If I don't see the twists coming, neither should my readers. My other approach to storytelling can be summed up in three words: MAKE THEM CARE.

I have read all but a couple of your older books, and have been binge reading your series since last month. You quickly became one of my favorite authors! Not many authors seem to be able to do both amazing stand alone books and series. So kudos!! Which book do you feel has been your favorite to write and why? Watching you has been my favorite, I have loved them all but that one was a bit more than psychological.

I recently read the entire Joe O'Loughlin series and adored it! I hope to see more of Joe in the future. Thank you for all of your hard work and creating such interesting characters. After finishing The Other Wife, I started reading Life or Death and was surprised and thrilled that not only was it set in Texas but it also featured The Woodlands which is my hometown. What made you want to write a book based in Texas?
