I think the point of the story was not to find out who killed Robin, but none the less, I wondered too, so I came up with some theories and online I found some more ideas:

Ida killed Robin because she could be upset at Edie for being so unconcerned about the church fire that Ida was in, and not being paid well. She also had the radio up really loud during Robin's death, which could've been to cover up Robin's screams. Further Charolet was distracted because of Ida "not being able to find the good silverware." Ida could've continued to work for the family, as quitting would be suspicious. Ida had also chased off Dany the day of the murder.

I also heard this interesting theory: Chester killed Robin because he tried to perpetrate Robin, and it went wrong. The little Odum girl had told Harriet that "her" gave her the red gloves, and she could've meant Chester, who could've given her the gloves to keep her quiet about what he did to her. After all, he does have access to the shed where Harriet kept her red gloves. Chester also seemed nervous about Harriet running into the shed of the house he was working in, maybe because he was hiding something in there. It's a stretch, but I think it is valid.

It might be Pemberton, as the book finished with Pemberton talking to Helly, telling him that Harriet is smarter than Helly and that, if I remember correctly, "Danny didn't kill Robin anymore than I did." (maybe he was just saying Danny didn't kill Robin) Perhaps Robin's death was an accident that Danny and Pemberton were involved in. Further, Pemberton starts going out with Allison, possibly to find out if Allison knows he was involved in Robin's death.

I don't think it was Danny who killed Robin (at least not on purpose) as he was Robin's best friend, and was the same age as Robin. He also said that he wishes he wasn't chased off by Ida, because then he might've been able to save Robin.

It also could have been Farish. He is mentally off, has a problem with cats (remember Robin's cat), and was older than Robin, so he could have had the strength to do it. Further, I don't completely remember this, but I heard something about how it was said that a yellow tooth Ratliff once worked for the family- possibly Farish?

Dav The cops found no proof of accident nor murder. The author's scant clues are useless. There seems to be no one presented who had means, motive and opportunity to kill a cheerful 9 year old. Personally I believe it's more likely than not that Robin died due to a mishap with a rope he had found somewhere, since that was his treehouse tree.

Boys, tree houses and ropes are nearly inseparable.
