Picasso asked Peter V. Brett:

Hi Peat, After having read The Core, I have one question regarding the "Cutter" accent... did you intentionally change the accents of the Hollow to show an amalgamation of of different accents that probably occurred with the fast intake of people and the consequent growth of the county? Or was it less of a change and more of a "now I am showing more of it"?

Peter V. Brett It's a little of both. I worked from the beginning to differentiate backgrounds and levels of education in accents, and to have regional distinctions between the accents of, say, Tibbet's Brook and Cutter's Hollow.

But some of the rules and consistencies in the accents developed over time and thus become more apparent as the series progresses.
