Kira Jeppesen asked this question about Zenith (The Androma Saga, #1):
I have a hard time trusting the reviews, because the booktubers gives the book great reviews, whereas the YouTube watchers give the book bad review. Feel like the BookTubers are lying just to keep their friend... :( Am I the only one?
Angie I wouldn't necessarily say that the BookTubers are lying – I mean from the reviews I've read, they've been constructive and positive, but not positive…moreI wouldn't necessarily say that the BookTubers are lying – I mean from the reviews I've read, they've been constructive and positive, but not positive in a sense that they say this book is "perfect". They still mentioned some things that could have been better. I've also seen reviews from youtube watchers or non-youtubers who've also rated the book well, and some who didn't like it all.

Agreeing with Samantha though, that it's good to trust reviews from Booktubers you trust. :)

As well, I've learned that while it's helpful to look at reviews, at the end of the day it's your own reading experience that also informs whether or not you really enjoyed a book. I've read books rated poorly, but in my own experience have enjoyed them. I've also picked up books rated highly by many people, but found it wasn't for me. In the case of Zenith, I'm giving it a go. You never know.

Also, I completely understand any concern about buying a book and not enjoying it and feeling as if money was wasted on it – perhaps find an excerpt or a copy at the library to see if you enjoy it? I now mostly buy books that I know I love and will reread, after borrowing them from the library.
