Goodreads asked R.L.M. Sanchez:

Where did you get the idea for your most recent book?

R.L.M. Sanchez It's been a lengthy seven years since I wrote down the first scratch note on the margin of a piece of spiral notepaper back in college. I can't even really say where the specific idea came from for Virion. I've always been fascinated by Virology. The idea that a civilization can be brought to its knees by a microscopic organism is as fascinating as it is horrifying. Movies like Outbreak and games like Resident Evil just fed into my fascination. Mass Effect was a huge inspiration at the time, I remember being in awe when I first played it, I had never seen anything so immersive in a game before. And when I realized that my favorite film of all time was Blade Runner since I was just a boy, I think I had an idea after all of that mess.
