Hey Rob! Hitting me with the hard questions, eh? Apart from writer's block, which strikes like a seasoned ninja, or editing, recently, it's been the dreaded rewrites. Specifically, there is always something I want to add to the manuscripts, even when it's on my editor's desktop! No joke, I'll be trying to sleep at 3AM and my eyelids will blow open and I'll say, "I CAN FIT THIS IN..." Im sure in 20 years, there will be 30 editions of each of my novels...

It's been a lengthy seven years since I wrote down the first scratch note on the margin of a piece of spiral notepaper back in college. I can't even really say where the specific idea came from for Virion. I've always been fascinated by Virology. The idea that a civilization can be brought to its knees by a microscopic organism is as fascinating as it is horrifying. Movies like Outbreak and games like Resident Evil just fed into my fascination. Mass Effect was a huge inspiration at the time, I remember being in awe when I first played it, I had never seen anything so immersive in a game before. And when I realized that my favorite film of all time was Blade Runner since I was just a boy, I think I had an idea after all of that mess.

Strangely enough, epic music and soundtracks really help me get in the mood. I love seeing other inspirations in novelizations, film, and even video games. In my opinion, the video game realm has some of the most detailed and powerful stories I've ever seen.

With my debut series "Virion", I've set up the bedrock for a universe rich with characters, lore, locales, and technology. The stories that these characters can continue to give and the locations that have yet to be explored will told throughout a multi-series arch. Currently, I'm hard at work making absolutely sure that Book 2 of Virion is as perfect as I can make it.

Write. For yourself, for money, your friends. Whatever the reason is, don't ever stop writing.

Escapism. Writing words that turn into a breathing and sentient world and living in those worlds is truly one of the most powerful feelings. The thought of living on another planet, being a detective, the CEO of a massive corporation, anything is possible when your mind is not limited.

An interesting question. When writing action or horror pieces, and there comes a segment where things come to a crawl, I find it helpful to think of something drastic. Anything that will break the pace, something to throw the reader off. Killing off a character, asking a new question, introducing a new villain. I feel the most important thing is to keep moving forward and the best part is, you can always go back.
