I've been a full time author since 2015, so I'm no longer a research scientist.

However, I did write my first six published books while still having the day job. The fact is that you only need to write about 300 words a day in order to write a book a year and it doesn't take me long. It can be fitted around another job. This reply is itself 106 words and took me very little time to write.
If you are talking about research for the book ... well, I take the "fiction" element seriously and just make stuff up. Almost no research involved.

If your works were to get movie adaptations, would you appreciate them even if they lacked in part the explicit content found in the books? Would it be alright on your end if that meant avoiding controversies, or would you be keen on adapting the works entirely word by word?
