A Goodreads user asked Mark Lawrence:

If your works were to get movie adaptations, would you appreciate them even if they lacked in part the explicit content found in the books? Would it be alright on your end if that meant avoiding controversies, or would you be keen on adapting the works entirely word by word?

Mark Lawrence I don't think any books are brought to the screen word for word.

Films are their own thing. When the rights to a book are purchased it's the film makers who decide how much or little of the book they want to use.

I would appreciate a good film. And to be honest, there's nothing explicit in say, Prince of Thorns, that we don't see regularly in movies and on TV.
