I am guessing this idea was partly colored by the fact that I listened to the audio version and her parents were voiced with what seemed like a slight Asian accent and their speech patterns were not as fluid, in the audio version, as a native English speaker's might have been. The hero is mixed, half-Vietnamese / half Caucasian.(less)
