Anatoli Tolev asked Mark Lawrence:

I still need to get around to reading Book of the Ancestor(will probably wait till the series is finished because I hate the anticipation between books) and from what I've read online it's much more YA than your previous trilogies. As someone who fell in love with the darkness and violence and all around edginess of Prince of Thorns I was wondering if you were planning on returning to a more adult-oriented grimdark?

Mark Lawrence Well, Jorg is 13 at the start of Prince of Thorns and 14 at the end of it, and we get flashbacks to when he was considerably younger. The protagonist's age doesn't have much to with whether I will enjoy a book or not.

I don't think darkness, violence, or edginess (not sure what that is) qualify a book as adult-oriented. As far as I know those things can all be found in YA.

So ... I don't consider Prince of Thorns a more adult book than Red Sister. Red Sister certainly contains darkness and violence... Which leaves me struggling to answer the question.

Am I going to repeat myself? That I can answer. No.
