Firefly
Firefly asked Katherine Arden:

How do you choose the titles for your books?

Katherine Arden I mess with words and ideas until a combination seems to work. The title of The Bear and the Nightingale refers to two minor characters but also I feel speaks to the duality at the heart of the series--the real world and the magical world, order and chaos, men and women etc. The Girl in the Tower (the second book) was an obvious title both thematically and literally. There are several characters who could work as the title character, and the themes of freedom and confinement (esp for women) are important.
