I mess with words and ideas until a combination seems to work. The title of The Bear and the Nightingale refers to two minor characters but also I feel speaks to the duality at the heart of the series--the real world and the magical world, order and chaos, men and women etc. The Girl in the Tower (the second book) was an obvious title both thematically and literally. There are several characters who could work as the title character, and the themes of freedom and confinement (esp for women) are important.

Katherine, would you ever consider doing a book or two on Vasya by the lake? After reading the Winternight Trilogy, it would be wonderful to read more about her abilities and her history as well as her helping her niece to develop her sight... This trilogy was an amazing read - thank you for many hours of enjoyment.

In your acknowledgements, you mention an Abhay Morrissey. For the Czech language, it is important to know the gender of the person to use it correctly in a sentence. Can you please tell me if it is a he or a she? Thank you!
