Andrea Weinberg
Andrea Weinberg asked Lois Lowry:

Early on, how did you get your first book to become popular enough to make writing so lucrative to keep it as your only source of income? One author, A. Berkowitz, is at the beginning of his writing career with one novel published, The Hope Merchant. He is discouraged by the slow rate of catching on, but I know it will be loved by many one day. Do you have any advice?

Lois Lowry It's mostly timing and luck. My first book won a major award and so that made people more interested in buying and reading my next book. You can never predict those things, though, or plan for them.
