Sarah asked Jennifer A. Nielsen:

What are some tricks you use to help you build the world your books are set in?

Jennifer A. Nielsen Hi Sarah - Effective world-building is in the details. So once you make a larger choice (it's a cool climate, for example), then consider how that funnels down into the details. For example: there will be a shorter growing season so food will not be as plentiful or cheap, days may be shorter, the clothing will be heavier or thicker. Every choice you make will have consequences on other parts of your world, so constantly look for those connections.
