Does the movie portray your idea of what the community looks like?

Lois Lowry Actually, no. I wrote the book 20+ years ago, and I was envisioning my own childhood communities, because I grew up on army bases...very rigid, regulated places. But of course the story of THE GIVER is set in the future. The houses wouldn't look like the ones I lived in! The set designers for the film were absolutely right in designing modernistic dwellings.
