In the Before the Dark, Vlad mentioned a journal he had written and should give to Mikhail was that the book that Natalya and Vikernoff found and gave to Mikhail, if not where is the journal and what's in it?

How does male conversion work in regards to lifemates? Some of my friends and I are arguing on how this works. I believe that the adoption ceremony had some effect on the converted males to allow them to get the binding words imprinted on their souls, but one of my friends is saying that it is passed on from father to son, that even mother to son doesn't count, nor conversion. Can you please explain?
