Why did you pick blue eyes to be the color that signifies something deeper in The Giver?

Lois Lowry Maybe because I have very blue eyes myself, as do all of my children!

Julia
Julia asked Lois Lowry:

What is the writing process for you, do you like to write with pen and paper or on the computer, and how do you get over writers block?

Heidi
Heidi asked Lois Lowry:

This question contains spoilers… (view spoiler)[ When you wrote The Giver did you mean the ending to be a metaphor for death and the afterlife? (hide spoiler)]

Samantha
Samantha asked Lois Lowry:

Dear Lois, My name is Samantha Chandler. I was wondering why you decided to write such controversial stories. I love the Giver Series, Silent Boy, and Number the Stars. I love your other books as well, but I am fascinated that you have written controversial topics for early and middle school students! I think that it is very important to allow students to think about tough topics. So thank you.
