A Goodreads user asked David Wong:

Going through JDATE3 right now. The bits of philosophical meandering on the universe and what it means to be a living breathing carbon structure have a way of impacting you when you read them. Even if it's a conclusion you've come to before or something you've thought late and night, having to read it in context sort of forces you to see it all again. Do you ever need to "sit it out a while" after writing those parts?

David Wong I'm afraid my answer to this would come off like, "Sometimes, I even blow MY mind!" but I can say that a lot of the time spent "writing" is actually just spent sitting around and thinking about things. And obviously the scariest part of these stories for David is being confronted with all of the deeper things he'd prefer to just not think about.
