Cintia asked April Henry:

I'm an aspiring writer, but I'm dealing with two things: I get discouraged every single day because 96% of manuscripts are rejected, and I haven't had an idea for years, literally. There's too many people wanting to be writers, and knowing there's so much competition just kills me a little every day. When I get motivated, immediatly something appears about the industry that kills it. Any tips on how to deal with this?

April Henry The only thing that is in your control is the book you are writing. Only from what I'm hearing you may not even be writing. By building up all these reasons why you shouldn't write, you're making it so that you will never finish anything, maybe never even start. I would stop reading or reading so much about the industry and set yourself a small daily goal, like writing without stopping every day for ten minutes.

Yes, many manuscripts are rejected, but a lot of the reasons they are rejected are totally within your control. Many have spelling errors, don't make sense, switch tense and POV randomly, etc.

My fourth book was the one that got published. But if I had given up I wouldn't be where I am now.

Don't just want - work at it. It's not necessarily the best writers who get published, but the ones who don't give up. Tenacity is more important than talent.
