I'd recommend reading the previous books first, but you will not be 'lost' if you don't.

I believe you will like this if you read it first, as the author summarizes the life situations at the start, but you will find it more rewarding and impactful in some cases if you start with the first book.

I agree with Jean and Charlie. I've been reading them in order, but I also think they can be read as stand alones. The author does a good job of giving you a recap of previous events or returning characters. These books read like a slice of life, very relaxing and enjoyable with humor too. Great for bedtime reading.
