But as I g…moreI read it when I was about 13 and I liked it on the level of it's a rollicking romance novel that follows a plucky heroine named "Scarlet." But as I got older and learned more about the civil war I feel less able to recommend this book to an impressionable teen because it does push the false narrative of the "lost cause" South, and happiness in slavery and other problematic themes.
