This is the 5th book in the Will Robie series. Is it necessary to read #s 1-4 first?

I must differ with the other answers. If one has not read the other four, it is unlikely you would finish this book. The only reason to finish this poorly written story is because of attachment to the characters developed by reading the other books. If you only want to read one book, pick one of the first two in the series.

Having read the previous books in the series is what made me finish this book. I would read books 1-4 and give this one a miss.

I'd for sure recommend reading the others first, or at least starting with #2 since that's when Jessica Reel is introduced. The character development is a lot more meaningful if you've been following the entire story. Sure, each book has its own standalone plot, but there have been some details that carry over from book to book as well. I actually found myself going back to the previous one to refresh my memory on certain events this book was referencing, so if you were to read it by itself, there might just be some places where you're a little lost.

I agree with Dallas. You can read alone, but knowing where Will comes from, and how he got to be where he is, plus the supporting actor's parts, comes from reading previous novels. But read this one, if you like it, go back and read the earlier.

Not at all. Each novel has its own story and resolution. A reference or two might be made to previous events, but it will be nothing to bother you.
Dallas F
not necessary, but story much more meaningful w/background
Linda Hart
definitely not necessary to read earlier books in the series.
Deb Jones
I recommend reading first four!
