Hi Ms. Lowry, thank you so much for agreeing to answer our questions. Forgive me for my ramblings but I do have several questions for you. :) Where did you get the idea for The Giver? How many publishers did you send your manuscript to before it was accepted? How old were you when you started writing? Do you have any advice for young writers?

Lois Lowry The same publisher has published all of my books except for two. So I simply gave the manuscript of THE GIVER to the edior wom I had worked with for a long time.

I began writing as a girl. Majored in writing in college. Worked as a journalist. Published my first YA book when i was 40.
