Mrs.Wright
Mrs.Wright asked Lois Lowry:

I'm intrigued by a society that strives to be better in its safety and sameness. So many details in The Giver make the fictional world real, like receiving bicycles at the same time, or speech protocols to keep conversations predictable. I wonder if there were other details or systems you considered for this world that were ultimately not included in the book, and if that was the case, why not?

Lois Lowry Oh,sure; I could have gone a thousand different directions. there are so many things to speculate about. But a writer's job is to sift and sort and select and arrange.
