Micielle asked Gary M. Martin:

Dear Mr Gary M. Martin, I must apologize because my question is not about books but is about Japan.I want to asked you about the parts of Japan that most of Americans have not seen can you tell me more? It the one place in the world I want to see the most of all.I can’t tell you why but I want to see things that are not tourist spots. The country side ,small towns ,seaside villages. Thank you. Sincerely Micielle Cart.

Gary M. Martin I'll mention a few things, but I don't know how relevant it will be. It's been 40 years since I was there.

I was stationed at Misawa AFB. It is at the northeast section of the main island. If you go a little southwest of Misawa you will find some smaller towns. During my time in Japan these towns did not see many outside visitors.

Sapporo, which is in an Island north of Misawa is a great place to see, but they do get tourists. Every year they had a festival where they displayed ice sculptures. The island is also known for black bears and monkeys.

I was fortunate enough to visit Sendai, which was the town of a Japanese friend of mine. Most of the people in this town had never seen an American.

I wish I had more to offer, but like I said, It's been a lot of years since I've been there.
