Goodreads asked Kimberly Garvin:

Where did you get the idea for your most recent book?

Kimberly Garvin "When Oliver Speaks" I co-authored with my son Saadiq Wicks. It was his idea on a train ride from New Jersey to NYC. Saadiq is a person who stutters and has done so for as long as he could speak. At 9 he created the non-profit organization Lllet Me Finish [after being bulllied for his speech] an organization dedicated to supporting young people who stutter that they may be successful in school and within their community. While on the train Saadiq mentioned writing a children's book [long term series] that would parallel his life. By the time we arrived to Penn Station we had the story framed.
