"When Oliver Speaks" I co-authored with my son Saadiq Wicks. It was his idea on a train ride from New Jersey to NYC. Saadiq is a person who stutters and has done so for as long as he could speak. At 9 he created the non-profit organization Lllet Me Finish [after being bulllied for his speech] an organization dedicated to supporting young people who stutter that they may be successful in school and within their community. While on the train Saadiq mentioned writing a children's book [long term series] that would parallel his life. By the time we arrived to Penn Station we had the story framed.

Writing was and has always been a way to express myself. ...Growing up I often felt as if I couldnt share those difficult facets of my life with anyone outside of my notebook. My notebook was safe...it didnt judge.

That's the thing right...like when you're a writer you're never not working on something. Whether your jotting notes for something that you haven't quite started or in the creative space where you're framing your next best selling novel...Right now I am working on a few things...marketing for When Oliver Speaks, a few blogs, some vlogging, another adult novel and a follow up for Oliver.

Write...and then write some more.

I think the best thing about being a writer is being able to be whomever you want behind the stroke of keys...to be able to give life...make a reader laugh...or just engage them enough that they [reader] gets a glimpse of who you are as a writer.

Typically I don't get writer's block. There are times however, when I don't feel as creative...you know creative enough to write [stroke keys] but there are always ideas swirling around in my head. And, when I the time is right...I write.
