Again I am rereading Captain Vorpatril's Alliance. Knowing G. Heyer is was something of an early influence for you, the thought drifted across my mind that Ivan is a many generations distant descendent of Freddy from Cottilion (he is my favorite character amongst Heyer's books). Both tend to be overshadowed by brighter stars, both have down to earth common sense. Was Freddie also a favorite of yours?
Lois McMaster Bujold
Oh, yes. I loved his relationship with his bemused father, too.
Heyer reuses the type, and it is common elsewhere, so it's not a sole source. See also Wodehouse.

As an author, how do you feel about content/trigger warnings? Some of your books have unpleasant things happening to characters (e.g. Elena Visconti). I really like those books, but I've recently been adding my own warnings while recommending them to friends. Would you be happy for an editor/publisher to add official warnings at the start of a book, or would that be treading on your toes?

I've recently had the pleasure of re-reading Komarr, a book I first read when I was too young to understand it, and reread when I was too newly married to appreciate it. Thank you for producing this wonderful book- the SF is excellent, but the insight into human nature is even better. I don't live in the States, and finding copies of your works is extremely difficult. Any chance of a box set being released? POD?

Hi Lois! I know you're a Star Trek fan from WAY BACK! I am too. I watched the first episode as it originally aired, with my big brother. So have you watched Star Trek Discovery? I just watched the first episode of Season 3 last night and Michael's reaction to the truth drug sure reminded me of Miles's reaction to the fast-penta given by Galen. I was wondering what you thought of it. Thanks
