Did David ever receive anything from insurance from when his house burned down in the second book? Is there a reason he isn't working at the video store anymore?

David Wong When he examined his insurance policy more closely after the event, it said that in the event of total fire loss he was eligible to receive "one thorough ass-beating." Though he was sure the policy did not say that before. The video store went out of business for the same reason all video stores have.
