Holly
Holly asked Lois Lowry:

Did you have the details of each of the societies portrayed in The Giver Quartet fleshed out before you began writing the four novels, or did you discover them as you went along?

Lois Lowry No, they created themselves...with my help...as I created them

More Answered Questions

Kylie
Kylie asked Lois Lowry:

I've read The Giver several times, both as a teen and now as an adult, and have always imagined the setting to be very simplistic - grey/monochromatic tones, linen clothing, even the food. Is the new films vision with more futuristic imagery what you had in mind when writing the text?

Ella
Ella asked Lois Lowry:

How do you feel about the relationship between mother and child? It seems to me that, in the world of The Giver, that relationship trumps all others.

Julie Brown
Julie Brown asked Lois Lowry:

Lois, I love using The Giver, Number the Stars, and more of your books in the classroom with my students. I am curious, though, why you let them change The Giver for the film? Not that it's a bad thing, I'm just wondering what led to that decision. Thanks, and I hope that you keep writing forever!
