Kylie asked Lois Lowry:

I've read The Giver several times, both as a teen and now as an adult, and have always imagined the setting to be very simplistic - grey/monochromatic tones, linen clothing, even the food. Is the new films vision with more futuristic imagery what you had in mind when writing the text?

Lois Lowry I wrote the book 20+ years ago. Making the film today, they realized some things would be different...like, for example, the pills in the book would be administered in a more efficient way. And in the future..instead of a TV monitor in the dwelling...the hologram will be more likely.
