One of my favorite books of all time is Number the Stars. What inspired you to write the book from a young girl's perspective, and why not make the main character Jewish?

Lois Lowry The main character in a book is the one who makes decisions and chooses a course of action. In Denmark, in 1943, the Jewish citizens had no choice. It was the Christians who chose. That is why the protaganist is a christian child. (a child because I was writing it for young people.

After reading the Giver series and then seeing your most recent movie, I was wondering how you felt about the interpretation of the book. More specifically how you feel about the discrepancies between the book and the movie, for example the fact that in the movie Jonas did not have pale eyes?
