Jess asked Lois Lowry:

You've said that you always wanted to write books, but it was later in life when you began a career in writing. Do you wish you would've fulfilled this dream sooner? Or do you feel the life you experienced made your books that much better? What advice would you give young writers who are just learning to balance their need to write with the basic human need to be in the world, experiencing life with those around them?

Lois Lowry I think everything fell into place at the right time for me. One does need life experience in order to write, so rushing it is a mistake. Patience is certainly a necessary virtue for a writer or would-be writer.
