There is some character and plot development but not an inordinate amount from one to the next. I've read a few out of order, just as enjoyable. The most important point is that Grafton wrote them in order, and that's how she intended them for character and plot. In your case, I would acquire the Goodwill ones, and visit a bookstore for the missing early ones, and start with "A!" (less)
