I especially like how the shadowlord returns (this isn't much of a spoiler by the way, this is from the first chapter/prologue). It isn't by some ancient apocalyptic cult or by a prophecy or something lame like that. He returns because the descendants of the first king who sealed him away became more and more careless about the people of the kingdom via internal corruption that by the time they realise it he's already conquered most of Deltora (I cant say more due to spoilers but suffice to say, it's a good read)(less)
