Read as much as you can, from a variety of genres and authors. Reading gives me inspiration and helps me to find my own voice, and can show me what works - and what doesn't work - in writing. The other thing is to write. Write as much as you can, as often as you can, even if you don't publish something. Like any craft, if you don't practice it, you won't get better.
