Crumb asked:

I am new to Jo Nesbo's books. Where should I begin? Should I read the first book in his series or should I read one of his stand alone's? Any help would be much appreciated!

Ben Skeen Unless you are a completest, honestly, you can get away with skipping #1 (The Bat) and you probably should skip #2 (Cockroaches). If you get into the rest of the series, you will probably go back at some point, but The Redbreast is probably the best place to start in terms of quality of writing and importance to the remaining canon.
Brian Nwokedi By book #4 (Nemesis) there is some overlap with the prior three books especially book #3 (Redbreast). My suggestion is to read them in order if you are interested in following the development of Harry Hole the character. This is because as Nesbo matures as a writer, his character will naturally follow suit in order.

If you are going to read just one as a stand alone to see if you like the author, I do suggest reading book #4 (Nemesis). It is my favorite thus far.
Daniel Hunn My recommendation is to start with #3 Redbreast, it's the first great book imo. Go back to the beginning if you're hooked, continue to #4 if you're not convinced but want to check out more. There'll be mild spoilers about Harry's personal life and some overarching characters if you read out of order.
Charles It’s not necessary, but recommended that the previous books in the series, particularly "The Redbreast" be read before this one. Otherwise, some of the, long-term, series plotlines with Hole will not be easily understood.
Eugenio Gomez-acebo My favourite is the first one. Start from the beginning.
Skip the second one.
