It is Dickey I believe who ends up working in the State Dept.
Lorraine
Richard Vanderwhile
John Bradley
It's Dickey I believe. Went and looked at Gentleman today and despite the fact he's called "Richard" in that book, he has the same last name. Has to be the same character.

Not sure - it's been a while since reading a Gentleman in Moscow. But since Katey's father and uncle had immigrated from Russia, could it have been one of them?

IMO, the characters that have the most in common between the to books are the 2 male, main characters: we see that both place a high value on respecting others, on the moral and ethical choices they make, on being civil, on being open to the spontaneous moment, anticipating and ready for the next amazing experience. That both move between rags and riches is less important than it is not what drives either of them. They enjoy the details of wealth - the food, drink, etc - but it is not what is most important.
