Isaiah I can't find any references to either man being released. There have been things happening in court since the book was published. There is a chance they were released, but the shooter is hiding from what I have been able to dig up, so if the only reason they were being detained was to identify the shooter then they very well may still be detained. If you look into the cases that were brought to court there is a lot to be said of what happened after the book.
