Hey Charles, I recall reading somewhere (possibly in one of your Reddit posts) that you were writing a novel that took place in the same universe as "Glasshouse" that was (dare I say, as I'm sure you're tired of hearing the comparison), similar to The Culture series. Just curious if it was still in the works. Any idea for release date? Thanks, Nate

"Glasshouse" was my worst-selling SF novel in the US market. Although I previously had plans for a sequel (provisional title "Ghost Engine"), that book will now never be written.
However, I am working on a space opera called "Ghost Engine" — it's just the first book in an entirely new setting, and I recycled a perfectly good title that happens to fit quite well.
However-however ... (this) "Ghost Engine" was due with my editors back in July, but it put up a struggle, and due to other big life events (my father died) I went stale on it while revising it. So it's going on the shelf for a little while, and instead I'm working on "The Labyrinth Index", Laundry Files book nine, which is going to replace it as my July 2018 title. ("Ghost Engine" should now be published in July 2019.)

So excited to hear "Dead Lies Dreaming" is soon to be published! The Laundry Files books are so much fun. I started reading Lovecraft as a teen (didn't we all?), but get a huge kick out of the government bureaucracy parody in your books. Did you ever work for a government agency?

I just watched the early House MD episode where the critical plot point depended on an incompetent pharmacist not knowing the difference between gout medicine and cough medicine. "The Concrete Jungle" was published six months before the episode "Occam's Razor" aired though, so there is unlikely to be a link. Or is there something you are not telling us?

Forgive me if this has already been asked: I'm reading Neptune's Brood and hit this: "The Vengeance was built to cruise at almost 1 percent of light speed: at full tilt it would flash across the gap between Old Earth and its moon in fifteen seconds flat . . . ." Am I missing something? Shouldn't that be 150 seconds? 2.5 minutes is still pretty freakin fast, though!
