Not that it matters, but the movie has the character as a black man. Did I miss that in the book? I Loved the book, couldn't put it down! Guess it's just bothering me that I missed that in a character.

For that matter, Ashley could also have been a black woman or a mixed race woman, but because her character (with a different name Alex) was white in the movie, I pictured it that way... (less)
