I recently finished the Best American Short Stories 2015 collection you edited. All of them seem to have twists and unusual moments in them that remind me of your work. How much latitude did you have for reading and choosing them? How many did you have to read before choosing? I like that your literary personality was reflected in the choices; do you know any of the writers?

Thanks, Will, glad to oblige. Heidi Pitlor did the heavy lifting, as I indicate in my introduction. I was given her final selection of a hundred, of which I was to pick twenty, but of course I could have included anything I liked that I'd seen in the magazines independently. The final choices are entirely my own and I'm glad that you see my taste reflected in the final picks. I know a couple of the authors, but only casually. Most were unknown to me.

I thought I was never going to find similar short stories as the ones by Cortázar in my lifetime: I just read them hoping to forget them immediately after so that I can read them all over again. Thanks for proving me wrong. Your short stories are amazing (your novels as well). Are you able to read Cortázar in spanish?

I know this may be like asking which are your favorite children, but how do you view your earliest work vs. your later work. What do you admire about each? If you'd allow me a second question, you mention in a prior answer that you have been inspired by being tired of news stories of random shootings or a biosphere so where did you get your earlier ideas for Water Music, Budding Prospects or World's End from?
