In Among Others, Mori is an avid SF reader. Me? Not so much (yet). What would be your top 3 recommendations for new-to SF readers?

Jo Walton It depends what you like. The problem is that there's so much that's so awesome that it's very hard to whittle it down to three, or even fifty. And if I give you what I think are the three best books, they might not be good starter books. In fact it's such a hard question that I intend to write a whole book about it called "How to Love SF".

What I'd recommend right now is that you read some short fiction in the genre. You could start with "Twentieth Century Science Fiction" edited by Patrick Nielsen Hayden.

A friend of mine recently read Lent as an audiobook, and while we were comparing notes about the ending we realized that her version did not include Chapter 48. She got it from Libro.fm, but when she looked at the Audible page for it, it seemed to be the same length. Is this a known issue with the audiobook edition? It seems like a pretty major omission!
